Packaging Tips for Shipping:
Adequate packaging for shipping consists of making sure the inner packaging works with the outer packaging to ensure the safety of the item. For specific packaging tips, please follow this link: http://www.ups.com/packaging/?loc=en_US
Packaging Tips for Storage:
Generally, you do NOT need to do the careful job packaging for storage as you do for shipping. Follow these simple rules:
- Do not pack all your heavy items in ONE box. (Example: Books, CDS and Magazines.)
- Do not pack all your light things in one box. (Example: Bedding and pillows.) Instead, MIX the items up and distribute the weight evenly.
- Put some books in EVERY box, use your bedding for CUSHIONING.
- If you have glass items (Framed pictures, mugs, etc) make sure they are well protected and cannot touch any other hard item directly. Use clothing for dunnage.
- Do not store liquids of any nature. If the lid comes off, it may foul your other stored items. If it leaks out of the box, the box and contents will be disposed of.
- Tape the boxes closed PROPERLY. Close the box FLAP TO FLAP. Do NOT lace the top flaps.
- Use proper packaging tape, the kind approved by UPS and FEDEX. DO NOT use duct tape. The glue melts when hot.
